To use simply use a sharp knife to make shavings that are thin and curled…the shavings will easily ignite by using a lighter, ferro rod or matches.
Another way is by taking a sharp edge on the spine of a knife to scrape the fatwood to make a sticky dust, after getting a small ball of dust in a pile you can then ignite with a ferro rod, lighter or matches.
